OUR VIDEO FOR FINAL PROJECT!

This is part of the final project that we were planning to conduct the whole time we've spent discussing about our programme for Pembangunan Diri subject. After we've taught to ourselves of how important it is to protect the nature, as what they provide us are keeping our life healthy and prevented us from many climate disaster, we are going to share the knowledge and experience, also our agenda to the younger and future-hope generation, which is the school students. But we've selected to whom we are going to share our agenda, and they are the form 5 students, who have no idea of where and what to further their study next in the university life. This event was held on 3rd of May 2015 with four selected form 5 students from SMK Sungai Pusu.

Of course many would say, why the form 5 students? Why not the kindergarten children? This is because the younger children may not understand how important it is to protect this nature as they do not know much. But the form 5 students know better, and are able to think further beyond logic that the younger children can do. Plus, these form 5 students are at the junction of deciding which life should they choose, and we as the seniors, can guide them to a way of life that practice the awareness towards nature conservation.

As our final activity concluded, we are proud to say that we are very happy, excited and feeling obliged that we were given the chance to do such lots of activities together with friends that has many backgrounds, doing many challenging things in life, all in a subject that teaches us to be independent, and productive on our own.

The main purpose of this program is to expose the members of our group on the importance of the environment in maintaining ecosystems and recognizing the type of tree and its scientific name as well as its importance to all living things. So, through this programme we can foster the love for the environment in our team members that was very closely linked to the our main project, ‘Recycle Lamp’ which is important to recycle discarded materials that can be used to create other products indirectly to reduce environmental pollution and natural resources from the environment such as trees.

PROGRAM FLOW:

At  9.00 am we start the programme. Our journey from Kolej Tun Syed Nasir by bus took within half an hour. Before the programme started, the exco programme briefed us the tentative that will be done that day. We had our breakfast at the cafe and then we begin our activtity.

Then we moved to the museum to visit. But unfortunately the museum was not available, so we proceeded to the next activity which is jungle trekking.

Along the way, we saw many different species of the trees in the forest. For example one of the names are Liana sp. , Tapak Hantu, Meranti sp. and many more. From this, we learnt that there are many different species of trees in Malaysia. We were so happy to experience the beauty of the rain-forest.

For the last activity we went to the canopy walk. Some of the members were so nervous but finally they managed to walked on through. From here we learnt to overcome our fear of heights. After that we went back to the college by bus.

OUR DAY SELLING TRIFLES AND COCKTAILS FOR FUND RAISING!

At the end of the day, we managed to double the profit compared to what we've spent for a headstart in our fund raising business of selling delicious trifles, and cocktails. This mainly due to that our group members are all active socially, and besides, we also had posted a poster to many of our friends and groups in Facebook and Whatsapp. This significant success left us with a happy and motivated feelings to achieve more for our next step of the programme, the final activity, giving talks and games at a primary school. We only hoped that the fund we've collected will be more than enough for that final moment.

By the way, our investment for fund raising is RM 35.84, and the total earnings just for that one night of 3 hours trifles selling, we've earned RM104, giving our total profit, doubled the investment, RM68.16.

OUR MEETING FOR FUND RAISING

We have finally been able to continue our discussion that has been quite long uncontinued for a while due to a mid-semester examination. After exam weeks ended, we resume our plan in making a big ideas of conducting a programme to a primary school, that is related to green next-gen lifestyle.

Before we were able to further beginning our programme to the school, we must first make sure our financial fund is secured, and thus we've come up with an idea to sell food. We thought of selling sweet and colourful dessert that will sure grab the attention of people, especially our target buyers, who were all students of UKM itself. So, our place of business took place in KTSN.

Without wasting any more precious time, we've conducted a meeting among us to make sure that every member of the team understood the situation and our next step that has to be taken in order to achieve success for our plan.

What we've discussed in the first meeting of this week is that we need supplies for our business headstart, and not to forget, a permission or a license to be exact that will allow us to sell food within our college where we all live. So, this is a proof of that license.

While we all needed to think throughly, we then decided to conduct a second meeting of the week, to sort all of our plan for the fund raising activity that is going to be hold on Saturday, 25th of April 2015.

The next thing we did was to sent a letter of informing the school where we are about to visit for the final project of our programme. This is the letter of informing for the school.

Then we were all ready to sell our TRIFLES, and COCKTAILS as planned.

WEEK 3 REPORT!

During the week 3 of our project, we had a discussion among us about the next step that we are going to take actions into. Firstly, we thought about the new objectives of ours, where first, how to commercialize our product. Second, what activity or programme that can be conducted. Third, where to hold the programme and how to make it a good event. Fourth, how to actually make money and profit by selling our product. Lastly, what action that we can actually do together to become a stronger team.

We have finally come to a conclusion for each of our objectives. For the first objective, we have discussed to make a video about our product, what good it brings, and how do we made it. The video we'll make will be posted to the students in the whole UKM including in the Bangi, so that we can actually broaden our commercials.

For the second objective, the programme that we have decided to conduct is to visit a secondary school nearby and hold several fun and exciting activities that will expose to them about the lives as a university student, and how recycling nowadays important to us.

SMK PUTERI TITIWANGSA

Next, for the third objective, after the place of event had been decided, we then decided that to achieve success in that programme, we must actually do fund raising. So, first thing first, sell our products with low price to the people we targeted and use that money for the programme.

The fourth objective is a bit tricky, as non of us have a good soft skill in business. But, due to that it is vital for us to achieve success in our dreams, we pushes ourselves to the limit. Half of us were assigned in business interaction with people to sell our products.

Lastly, our most important objective so that we can strengthen the bond between us is the most vital to increase our work power and efficiency. Despite being students with a hectic life, we fixed a schedule of having twice of regular meetings. Then, we occasionally every day communicate by using Whatsapp and Facebook because it is faster and more friendly medium for us to interact with each other. But when it comes to discussing a highly important matters, we will hold our meeting with all members present.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

Plastic bottles, cups, spoons, forks, and even paper-made form of those are a usual sight when we visit a waste disposal site. It all ends up becoming what we know as new or recycled products that were made by heavily working machinery. But, have we ever imagined of recycling all the junks and garbage filler into something new all with just our bare hands? Of course, some of us had, and might already done it. We are about to tell you people that recycling do not come only from a company that made tissues, or recycled papers, but it can also come from us. No machinery, no tons of acres of waste disposal sites. Just a pair of hands, ideas, and minor investment.

One of the product that can be made by using the method of recycling is lamp. Not to mention, there are several hundreds of other products, such as the rag doll, boxes drawer, and many more. But we'll be focusing more into making lamps. Recycled lamp to be exact, do not made from recycled light bulb because for sure it is highly rare to find a working light bulb in a dumpster. That's what we'll need to invest into, but take into account, we also need wires, bulb holder, and determination.

Why recycle lamps? Why not drawers, or anything else besides lamp?
Ideas beyond imaginations. When we were asked, "why only make lamps, there's tons of other product that could be made?". So we simply answered, "why not make one?"

Simply saying is not a wise thing to do. But to take action from what we said is accounted. For how long will we mass produced all of these garbage? Do we want to let our children and the next generation to live their life surrounded by these foul waste of ours?

What we could do the least is to make lamps out of recycled junks. Not just any junks, but those that'll last for a hundred of years such as plastic wastes. Why do we have to throw them away and simply hoping them to rot in the next few hundred years? Why not use them to make products that would last hundreds of years instead?
